The famous Popes' Palace in Avignon cannot be omitted from any discussion of Avignon without mentioning the famous World Heritage Site which is listed by the UNESCO as well. With its enormous size, looming over the town, it is perhaps no surprise that this is the largest gothic palace in the world, given its colossal size, looming over the town. In spite of the fact that it is mostly known for its heyday as a papal capital during the 14th century, and its even older 12th-century bridge, Avignon has a lot to offer beyond history.
