An antiquated French door from the era of the French Revolution. In the southern part of France, in the region of the Rhône River, Arles is a city that is located on this river. It is famous for possessing the spirit that inspired Van Gogh to paint his masterpieces, a characteristic that is reflected in the contemporary art displayed at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh. Known as the former capital of ancient Rome, the city of Arles also retains many relics from that time-period, like the Arles Amphitheater (les Arènes d'Arles), which holds plays, concerts, and bullfights for the public.
